Fall is Here

Hello all,
We are currently enjoying the fall down here in Tome, which is a mix of hot days and cold nights and cold days with hot nights, along with a handful of earthquake tremors with varying degrees of strength. Here are a few photos I snapped today of the animals, our little family down here in Chile. I really believe we have gotten so close to these guys simply because in a land where Spanish language reigns, we can speak to them in any language and feel their love.

We've been super busy lately, but did get to enjoy some sun the other day as a family -- now that Spring is in full swing the garden is growing up real nice, we've whipped out the sunscreen and sunglasses, and the pup and I have had even more fun on our morning beach runs.

My Fabulous Husband

So I've been thinking about how much I appreciate my husband, and I thought I would share with all of you in a short "Jordan Appreciation" picture post. Yes, this might be a little sappy, and yes, it has little to do with our Chile Mission, but you were warned so move along if you don't feel like reading any further!

 This is Jordan, my husband, and I can't think of anyone better to live life together with here in Portland, and down in South America. We enjoy walking, and since we have many friends with dogs here in Portland, we get extra walking companions now and then! (Jordan will even walk both dogs while I have my hands full drinking an iced tea and taking pictures)

 Here is Jordan busy reading with one of our friends' kids. We've had some free time up here to babysit and it has been so cool to see Jordan spend more time around kids - he's a natural, and super patient - he's gonna be a great dad. 

 This is Jordan instructing me in how to fix some sort of camera/computer technical difficulty. Again, his patience is incredible, especially when he has to explain something to me upteen times and I still don't get it.

 This is Jordan and our good friend Chad, one thing about Jordan is that he is a very loyal friend, and truly has a servant's heart (see picture below)

So here is the whole reason I decided I finally needed to do this post. This is Jordan chopping wood, he's been helping our friend chop up a tree that they took down in their backyard a few months ago. Its hard work, but J decided to go ahead and come over today, while our friends are out, to finish up. This is his servant heart in action. Yes, he has a bunch of wood that will need to be chopped once we go back to Chile, but does that stop him from helping out a friend? No way man! 

So Jordan, here's to you today - I love you! The Lord has made you so unique and wonderful, what a gift to be along for the ride with you for the rest of our lives!

Una Visita

Here we've been home for about 2 weeks now, and haven't really posted anything on what we have been up to! Thought I would share some photos from my dad's house -- we got to go up there for a visit a the beginning of our time home, and it was great!

Home!

Hey all, just a quick note to let you all know we arrived safe and sound in Portland last Wednesday. We've been pretty busy with family and friends lately, but we'll be sure to get back on track with the updates soon. While you wait, here are a few pictures.

Knitting Ministry

Well, looking back over the past few posts, we've got a lot of food going on in this blog - so I thought I'd add something different today!

Yesterday I went to visit our dear friend Denis in the hospital, for more info on Denis go here. Anyway, she has been in the hospital for about 3 weeks now, and we are praying that her stay will not be too much longer. At this point things are just moving slowly...as many public hospitals just don't have the staff/resources/etc. to move super quick. I snapped a few pictures of the hospital so you can get an idea of what one of top hospitals in the Concepcion area looks like. 

Heading toward the visitor entrance, I believe that new front entrance is more more ER stuff and day visits...because we always just head to these back buildings where they have the long-term patients

Jordan and I were able to visit her a few weeks ago, and I also was able to go last Friday for a visit - unfortunately this hospital is about an hour away by bus, so it isn't the easiest to get to. After our initial visit, I really felt like I would be cool to get a knitting ministry going like the one we have at our church back home. I set out to knit Denis a scarf, all the while praying for her as I worked. I was able to give it to her yesterday - and explain to her the idea behind a "prayer scarf." 

I added a little tag, with a Bible verse on the back for encouragement. 

After visiting her a few times (which has been a bit of a challenge from the Lord - I'm not the best "hospital visitor" so to speak, never knowing what to say, worrying about what to do, etc.) I realize that she is a little discouraged, and how could you not be? There's no tv or anything to distract you, you've got 7 other women in your room with varying degrees of serious illnesses. And while sitting in a bed all day could sound like a vacation, it probably gets really old really fast...so pray for speedy recovery!

Overall, to sum things up: please continue to prayer for Denis, for encouragement, blessings each day, and health. She is such a wonderful woman, I don't want to have to travel an hour to see her! :) Also, new ministry - knitting prayer scarves! I think we will be having a knitting session next week with some of the women, which will be a really good time of fellowship. Have a great Tuesday.

Sharing a Meal

A ministry that Jordan and I have truly enjoyed since we arrived is simply having people over to our house for lunch or Once (more to come on Once). Having a space to entertain is such a blessing, and we have had a chance to get to know many people in the church and community by sharing a meal with them.

A few weeks ago, when Jordan's mom was here, we had our Pastor and his wife over for lunch.
